Graffiti Technica - Flood I have been inspired by a lot of architecture lectures that I have been going to lately. I see a lot of parallels between graffiti and what architects talk about in terms of designing with curves and mass. I know that sounds like a long stretch to get graffiti and architecture linked but they are both dealing with aesthetics and both trying to shape material into a form. This work was inspired by a public artwork by Richard Tipping at the Brisbane Powerhouse - it is a work that pays tribute to the areas past floods as it is right next to the Brisbane river. Made from sheet metal it appears to be sunken into the concrete. I wanted to use that idea of different areas to the work - above and below ground and have it appear to break out of the concrete.
I also wanted to use the bold red color from the original work as it just makes flood text stand out from the natural environment.
