Here are some answers to FAQ that I get:
What software do you use?
For the actual creation of the work I use Illustrator and 3ds Max with either Vray or defult scanline as the renderer - depending on what style and vibe I want the work to have. For comp'ing I use Photoshop and After effects. That being said i think you can use any software you like as it isn't about what program you use, it's what you do with it.
When did you first come into contact with Graffiti?
Saw graffiti as a young kid all the time on train lines and in the city but really started to take notice of it when I saw a book called "Spraycan Art" in a library one day. The styles that were in the book at the time blew my mind and were like nothing else id seen before so I started by just getting a collection of the best works that I could find.
I also remember as a kid going to an air brush exhibition where I saw extremely intricate graffiti designs. I just kept drawing and drawing designs until I started to understand styles and the concepts behind graffiti. Even painted a wall under our house that just got repainted whenever I wanted to do another design.
What is it about Graffiti art that draws you towards it?
I am interested in the styles. As a designer I can really appreciate the level of skill it takes to actually do good solid graffiti design. I like trying to get right into the styles of any design and put my own mark on it in a way that nobody else has thought of.
The whole reason behind Graffiti Technica was no one was doing fully rendered 3d graffiti at the time (that I knew of). There are artists doing 3d but they all seem to stick to just pure vector art. Having worked in television for so long I thought that I could bring skills that I learnt from motion graphics and design to graffiti and produce something totally new.
I also think that there is just so much more that you can do in 3d than with paint, it gives you so many more options and ways of manipulating the design.
Do you have a particular style that you go with when you do your art?
No actually I don't really have a style at all, nor do I really want one. I want to create something new every time, the process of creation is about discovering something fresh and interesting rather than just working on one style forever - I find that boring.
However wild style designs have always spoken to me. I love the way that the lettering folds back on itself to the point that it creates an object or a totally new shape and within the shape there still remains the original idea or word but it is almost totally lost in the complexity of the design.
Have you ever faced any problems or difficulties when doing your Graffiti work?
No, as my work is digital I don't really have any problems, other than finding time to do designs. And my own level of skill in the software.
"Graffiti is vandalism" What is your opinion about this statement?
Yeah it is vandalism if you spray it on someone's wall. But it's also a statement and a design/artwork so it is more than just a crime.
I think graffiti is slowly gaining a reputation now as art instead of crime but it's still very much a fringe art form that the general public doesn't really understand. And may never really accept or understand.
